Possible Couples

Ron and Hermione

Quotes supporting a Ron/Hermione romance can be found here.

Harry and Hermione

The kiss on the cheek at the end of book 4
Some Harry/Hermione shippers believe that is proof that Hermione likes Harry; Harry noticed that she had never done that before.

Others argue that the kiss on the cheek was proof that Hermione is not interested in Harry in that way. Hermione is very insecure socially, she is not the type of girl that would make a pass at a boy. Maybe she is so comfortable with their friendship that she knew he would not take the kiss the wrong way.

The hug at the end of 2nd movie
In an interview with IGN Filmforce, JK Rowling said:
"Key things happen in book 2. No one knows how important those things are...yet. There is a lot in [the movie], and I know how difficult it was to get it all in there without drawing too much attention to the clues."

When Hermione was in the hospital wing, Harry spent a good amount of time by her bed stroking her hand affectionately and looking at her. Clue?

Near the end of the second film Hermione runs through the great hall and wraps her arms around Harry in a hug. She then turns to Ron, and they start to move in for a hug but then they step back awkwardly and shake hands.

There are a couple ways I can interpret this:

1) The hug indicates that she is hinting of of Harry/Hermione romance.
2) Hermione gives Harry a "friend hug," but Ron and Hermione chicken out because they have a little thing for each so it was too awkward. (This is the one I feel is the most likely.)

Harry and Cho

JKR made it clear at the end of book 5 that this relationship is over:

"Hey, Harry," said Ron softly, nodding towards the glass window on to the corridor.
Harry looked around. Cho was passing, accompanied by Marietta Edgecombe, who was wearing a a balaclava. His and Cho's eyes met for a moment. Cho blushed and kept walking.
"What's -- her -- going on with you and her, anyway?" Ron asked quietly.
"Nothing," said Harry truthfully.
"I -- er -- heard she's going out with someone else now," said Hermione tentatively.
Harry was surprised to find that this information did not hurt at all. Wanting to impress Cho seemed to belong to a past that was no longer quite connnected with him.

Additional proof from the World Book Day chat:

eastbrook4: why did Harry have to split up with Cho Chang? JK Rowling replies -> That's life, I'm afraid. They were never going to be happy, it was better that it ended early!

Harry and Ginny

What was said before book 5:

"Ginny is infatuated with Harry, but so far Harry hasn't shown any signs of interest in her. Maybe Harry hasn't really noticed her yet because she is Ron's little sister. Ginny will mature, and maybe Harry will begin to notice her more in book 5. JKR did say that Ginny Weasley would play more of a role in book 5."

Many people seem to think that because of the new book 5 revelations about Ginny being over her crush on Harry, the relationship is over, but most Harry/Ginny fans are celebrating. Just like we predicted, Ginny matured in OotP. Ginny had to get over her girlish crush before Harry could possibly notice her for who she really is.

JKR layed a glaringly obvious Harry/Ginny clue at the end of the fifth book:

"Who's Cho going out with now anyway?" Ron asked Hermione, but it was Ginny who answered.
"Michael Corner," she said.
"Michael -- but --" said Ron, craning around in his seat to stare at her. "But you were going out with him!"
"Not any more," said Ginny resolutely. "He didn't like Gryffindor beating Ravenclaw at Quidditch, and got really sulky, so I ditched him and he ran off to comfort Cho instead."
Ron looked highly delighted.
"Well, I always thought he was a bit of an idiot," he said. "Good for you. Just choose someone -- better -- next time."
He cast Harry an oddly furtive look as he said it.

This creates a whole new aura of approval. The biggest obstacle a Harry/Ginny relationship would face is getting approval from the Weasley family, and from this excerpt we can see that Ron is not only "OK" with it, he's actually supportive of it.

Another book 5 excerpt worth quoting:

"Ginny used to fancy Harry, but she gave up on him months ago."

It doesn't say she's over him, it just says she's given up on him.

There is no real canon proof of this, but people can compare Ginny to Lily-looks wise. Both have red hair, and even the actors from the movies look similar. Harry looks exactly like his father. Ginny looks like his mother. Maybe it's history repeating itself.

Here's another subtle clue brought to attention by Sweet Pea:

"Now, the ball will be open only to fourth years and above -- although, you may invite a younger student if you wish --"
Lavender Brown let out a shrill giggle. Parvati Patil nudged her hard in the ribs, her face working furiously as she too fought not to giggle. They both looked around at Harry. -Page 386 of the American version of Goblet of Fire

Every Gryffindor knows that Ginny likes Harry, do they glance at Harry because they think he should ask her? So Ginny has matured and they now have approval from the over-protective older brother. Things are looking good for Harry/Ginny fans.

Ron and Hermione then Harry and Hermione

Had to mention this, as it was submitted by so many people. It's possible that Ron and Hermione will get together in book 5, but the relationship won't last because of their conflicting personalities. Personality-wise, Harry seems to be more like Hermione than Ron so maybe they'll end up together.

Harry, Ron and Hermione Love Triangle

Also had to mention this due to the sheer number of times it's been brought up. I'm sure Ron likes Hermione, but so far she hasn't shown that much interest in him. Ron likes Hermione but Hermione likes Harry -- could that be possible? Yeah. Probable? Don't think so, but we'll see.

Hermione and Krum

Krum obviously cares for Hermione. She was probably flattered when he asked her to the ball. She might even have gone with Krum to make Ron a little jealous. However, Krum needs to step aside and make-way for another guy for Hermione because he is not her type, especially with him being 4 years older then her. Krum and Hermione won't have much of a future together.

Ginny and Draco

Not a likely couple, but it could be a Romeo and Juliet sort of thing. Two families that hate each other and a forbidden romance.

Draco and Pansy

They went to the Yule Ball together, they are both Prefects, and they are both in Slytherin. Who knows?

Ginny and Colin

The two are in the same year and share a common bond -- Harry. Maybe they'll set up a Harry Potter fan club together and start to notice each other. Bit of a stretch, yes.

Ginny and Neville

Maybe Ginny will discover Neville's "inner-beauty." They did go to the Yule Ball together, even if it was a last-resort for Ginny.

Bill Weasley and Fleur

In Book 4 it said Fleur was eyeing Bill with great interest, and that she clearly did not object to the fang earrings. Fleur is a beautiful woman, and they are somewhat close in age, so it's definitely a possibility.

Fred and Angelina

When Fred asked her to the Yule Ball she said something like, "Yes, alright then. And turned back to Alicia and carried on chatting with a bit of a grin on her face." Then, at the Yule Ball, it said they were dancing away so exuberantly people were backing away in fear of an injury.

Percy and Penelope

"Ginny -- What did you see Percy doing, that he didn't want you to tell anyone?"
"Oh that," Ginny giggling, "Well -- Percy's got a girlfriend."
Fred dropped a stack of books on George's head. "What?"
"It's that Ravenclaw prefect, Penelope Clearwater," said Ginny. "That's who he was writing to all summer. He's been meeting her all over the school in secret. I walked in on them kissing in an empty classroom one day."

Hard to argue with that...

Hagrid and Madam Maxime

This is an obvious couple that played an important role in book 5 and will be interesting to watch in book 6.
